Are Polymer 80s Illegal?
The polymer 80 has been the topic of a lot of controversy, especially last year when the ATF executed a raid on the Nevada based Headquarters. The Steps to complete P80:
- Drill holes for the pins on either side of the receiver
- Remove the barrel block and smoothen out the top of the receiver
- Ensure the barrel fits properly
- Install locking block rail system after removing front and rear
- Install rear rail module

That is, it has not had the historical merit attributed to it like other more commonly used materials, like steel and wood have in the community. That being said, polymer has come a long way from its test trials, and has even become so advanced that it can perform better than steel in certain cases. Blunt damage is much easier for polymers to handle, and therefore can withstand a bit more than steel can, as any steel is not as forgiving. In a polymer 80, more than half of the materials are made up of polymer. It is much lighter than handguns of the same size with steel frames. This makes it much easier to conceal. The 9mm Luger round does not have a lot of kick back, which means that recoil will not be a big problem, even with how light the frame is.
Do I need to Serialize My Polymer 80?
The short answer is NO. The long one, however, is not so cut and dry. While it is perfectly legal in federal law to skip out on serializing your newly built 80% Polymer handgun, Some states do not agree. It is up to you, the customer, to know the Laws revolving around Polymer 80s and 80% lowers in your state.
